to their commitment to excellence,

Education
{grad diploma} |
{shining apple} On May 14th, 2005, I received my Master's degree as a reading specialist from Westminster College.
In the near future, my plans involve my return to school to study for a doctoral degree in education; I would like to someday teach future teachers. |

Career |
Philosophy: I believe in career and technical education and the need to acquire the academic skills to succeed, regardless of the future direction a student selects to take. Whether it is success on the job, a continuation of skills at at technical school, or an expansion of knowledge at a college level, I believe in the need to prepare our students to develop their skills for the future!
Experience: Since 1996, I have taught traditional English with a Vocational twist. We may read the classics, but an extra emphasis that makes the connection to the world of work is made apparent in the classroom.
Just as with all other programs at LCCTC, these English courses have been structured to increase rigor and to more closely meet Pennsylvania standards while at the same time meet the "career-to-work" traditions of a Career and Technical Center.
College in the Classroom: I have also been asked to once again teach Dual Enrollment Speech where eligible seniors can get a jump-start on their college career by taking this Butler County Community College (BC3) course during the school day. Interested Juniors should check with the Guidance Office for more details about scheduling this course for the next year.
Night & Saturday AM Classes: I now also teach Developmental Reading and English 101 at BC3 Lawrence Crossing. Teaching at the college level has helped me understand the need for students to enter college or technical school with the skills needed for immediate success at the post-secondary level.
Personal Reflection: Each day brings new challenges; regardless of the course I teach, it is my goal to provide each student in my classroom with a sense of, "Yes! I can!" while providing the necessary tools to ensure that they can succeed in the outside world of continued school and/or work. |
