This is the official website of Above the Influence. This site, the Above the Influence commercials, and all other Above the Influence ads that you see are created for the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, a program of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This campaign is inspired by what teens have told us about their lives, and how they deal with the influences that shape their decisions.

Every teen's life is filled with pressure, some of it good, some of it bad. Our goal is to help teens stand up to negative pressures, or influences. The more aware you are of the influences around you, the better prepared you will be to face them, including the pressure to use drugs, pills, and alcohol. We're not telling you how to live your life, but we are giving you another perspective and the latest facts. You need to make your own smart decisions. We want teens to live Above the Influence.

You might even consider this site an influence. We know how smart you are when it comes to the messages you see and hear. That's great and you should question us, too. One way to do that is to review our sources. The numbers at the end of many of the facts are footnotes. You can click on them to find out where we got the information.

We hope that this site helps you to be more aware of the influences around you, and that you carefully consider the risks when you're faced with tough decisions.

The Cyberbullying Research Center is dedicated to providing up-to-date information about the nature, extent, causes, and consequences of cyberbullying among adolescents. Cyberbullying can be defined as "willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices."

Dear Family and Friends of Lawrence County CTC:

It is with great pleasure that I write to welcome you and your student(s) to the 2011-2012 school year at the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center. I hope that your summer has been filled with fun family activities in this beautiful weather. How quickly summer ends, though, and our thoughts begin to focus on the start of another great school year! As LCCTC’s new principal, I am very excited to meet new students and families and catch up with “old” students and families.

Our first event of the new school year will be a New Student and Family Orientation on Tuesday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. The intent of this Orientation is to allow students accompanied by parents, to follow their schedule, find their classrooms and meet new teachers, aides, guidance department, and administration. We hope that this short visit will help our new students feel more comfortable on the first day of school.

The first student day will be Monday, August 29. The school day begins at 8:07 a.m. and runs until 2:45 p.m. Please note that first period’s start time has changed to 8:07 a.m.

I would also like to invite you to Open House which is Thursday, October 6 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to visit your child’s different classrooms and shops, begin to form a relationship with their teachers and learn about the curriculum, innovative technology and class procedures.

Parents play an essential role in the school community, and together, we embark upon this journey through LCCTC. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns now and throughout the school year.
